Birds of a Feather

Image
I could hardly resist the title.  Two is not quite enough for a flock but perhaps three will be.  Moving two sizes down from the last Tiny Pocket Tank  I found a nearly perfect fit.  And I was a little surprised (though I had been looking at them both for many days thinking of these tanks) to discover I had picked two bird printed fabrics. This one is vintage from a gifted stash.  The binding is part of the immense amount I got at the beginning of my sewing all those years ago.  This shirt cost me nothing but time to make. There was exactly the right amount of the binding to do the neckline.  If I do say so myself, I think it is very anthro.  I still want to drop the darts an inch.  These children have certainly rearranged my body but I am getting used to it and trying not to mind too much.  All part of growing up, accepting the changes for what they are instead of fighting back so hard. Also, perhaps it is time to clean my...

Sewing Retreat: Part 2

Image
First up were the shorts for E.  I started them as soon as I arrived on Friday night.  I had edited all the ridiculous pockets and made simple patch pockets instead.  E can hardly get into a regular pants pocket anyway.  This way he can gather treasures without extra frustration.  I used the size 4 pattern and was so surprised when they fit him.  They look huge!! I got this adorable print knowing he would love every creature on it.  I want to add a strip of it to a t shirt as well.  So cute!  I hadn't measured his waist so I had to wait until I was home to finish them.  He is planning to wear them to gymnastics tomorrow even though it is only supposed to be in the 50's. That makes them a success in my book.   Next came the bag.  This turned out to be a total fail.  Giant, way too stiff to work with, nightmarish.  I think I managed to get through it with out any swearing.  I have no idea where that restraint ...

Some random bits

Image
Some days it seems like it is raining even inside.  This was Papa's version of escapism on one of the more turbulent days in the first week.  Luckily, as routine begins again I think things are calming down.  The babymoon is over but I think it was more than anyone could really take.  (Except for the laying in bed part for me.:) Here she is wearing the shirt E colored for her.  Probably for the only time.  We went to the doctor today and she has grown 2 inches and is up 5 oz from her birth weight.  I've already taken out the first round of clothes because she is out of the tinier newborn items.  So amazing how fast she is growing.  I feel like we may have also just hit that first growth spurt that means they eat around the clock for a day or two or three.  She has been so easy so far, just like E was, I remember being totally caught off guard when he decided that if he wasn't eating he was fussing around two weeks.  And then j...

Drawing

Image
Grainy pictures from a rainy day.  But I wanted to share these because I think they are so cute.  E decorated some shirts for Sissie.  I drew the circle and had him add the eyes and arms and legs.  He added the mouth (over the eyes), nose and hair. He also wanted to decorate the one where you open it so when you change her diaper, "It will be pretty!"  I just tried to keep a straight face. This was about a 5 minute art project.  Just the right length to keep it happy. Happy New Year!

Out takes

Image
I spent a while this morning trying to get a good picture of my new 'do. It was just me and the auto timer. Set in the normal place on the bedside table. But I was aiming for just the head really. And using the zoom, which I don't usually do. So it was a little tricky.  And the light was bad... Turns out the first one was the best.

Sweater Season

Image
Today Desi got a sweater.  She is so cold she sleeps under the covers with us.  Happily.  Zo was so much harrier!  I can see Desi's pink skin right through her hair on most of her body. I was looking on ravelry to find something new to do with the yarn I had been knitting into a sweater.  Yeah- that whole knitting thing didn't really work out for me.  Maybe the next thing I try will be smaller.  I definitely can't count :)  Here is what my sweater looks like now: As I was looking I stumbled upon the pattern for a granny square dog sweater and figured- why not?  With crochet I can easily finish something like this in a couple of hours and whala!  Here you go. Isn't she sweet?  Her transition into the household is really going well.  I even bought her some balls to play with because she is finally getting playful.  And frisky.  And she isn't too afraid of the Bug as long as he doesn't have a drum stick in his h...

1593 stitches

Image
In the last couple of days I started a sweater (ravelry link) for Senor. Already, 1593 stitches. And I have done other things including visiting the farm which is growing our food this summer. I can't believe I didn't take any pictures there. The food was so beautiful and we also got to see piglets, peacocks and geese (oh my!) The Bug loved looking at the animals, he wanted to crawl into the area with the piggies so much. I did too. I have no idea how you people eat these creatures! I mean, I do get it, and I don't mean to judge- but pigs are so cute! It is really, really cool to know the women growing our food this summer. The really amazing part is they used to work for me about a million years ago. What they are doing is astounding. The amount of work they are putting in just boggles the mind. I really am so thrilled to be able to be some small part of what they are doing. After showing us around they sent us all home with some broccoli, spinach, salad gre...

Mama-made

Image
I made a hat for the Bug over the weekend because I had some time to kill in the car and crochet is so easy and fun to travel with. I started out thinking I was making a hat with ears but the tweed I used and the shape the hat had at the top made me go in a different direction in the end. I added a little needlework to bring some gender neutrality to it. I am a little worried everyone will think he is a girl because of the cranberry color. Oh well, they think that anyway. Poor guy is really going through it right now. He has just started sitting up and fell over this morning and whacked his head on the hard wood floor. And then all day with the hands in mouth, drooling and bursting out crying, big lip out, full on sadness. I feel so bad but there isn't much I can do. We just have to beg the teeth to hurry and stop torturing our sweet boy. The picture above was taken in one of the few smiley moments of today. I am using the teething tablets and we gave him tylenol tonight. ...

Happy Weekending

I can hear him downstairs with papa laughing his head off. See ya. Click the picture for more Bug fun.

This just in!

The Bug and I are slow roasting tomatoes today. Sydney tried to help but we decided that we have enough fur in our diets, thank you very much. The big news is the Bug rolled over this morning while I was in the shower and his Papa was watching him. Then later he did it again for me. Weirdly, this made me almost cry. It is so cool to watch him develop and change. Every moment brings something new. I tried to capture a roll on a little video but, of course, he is holding back. However, I am posting the video anyway because he is so flippin' cute I just can't help myself. He is a little screechy and the sound quality is bad so turn your speakers down a bit. Enjoy!

Laying up with Mr Wheezey

I stayed home today in an effort to convince my giant foot that there is no reason to be growing a lemon for an ankle. I have some kind of ridiculous staph infection that is making it damn near impossible to walk... Not being able to walk makes everything else much harder. I can certainly understand why people like single level homes. The weirdest thing about this is I have had the same thing happen in the other foot. Who gets two of these kind of strange infections? In other news, Mr Wheezey (the kitten formerly known as "Tiny Kitten") is still living in our basement bathroom. Are you people advertising this kitten to friends or what? No comments at all on a post with a picture of a tiny kitten! Heartless fiends! The lot of you! Pretty soon Mr Wheezey is going to need a committee to help find it a home- please spread the word. Just to make sure you understand the need of Mr Wheezey for a new home I will place pictures of him again as soon as I hobble all the way do...

Oh No!!!

The cuteness is killing me!!!!!

Moving right along-

So this week has been busy at work and then my sweet mother is here and I am going to see Nicole in Raleigh this weekend so I am getting no sewing done. I did pretty much wrap up one bag last weekend which I will post pictures of when it is complete. And did you know there has been sunshine this week??? And it has been warm(er)??! So Seńor and I have been planning garden things and I am really starting to get excited about the ideas. For some reason this year I have felt like maybe the whole spring thing was a hoax. Perhaps there would never be Spring and we would wallow in darkness and cold for eternity. I don’t know why, but that was what I was thinking. I hope to get some things done on the train to Raleigh this weekend. We’ll see what I come back with…. In the mean time go here to get your cute fix.
