Loosening up

Image
I finished the arm warmer a few days ago.  It looks lovely, no glaring errors.  Except it is about the right size for Emerson...  Whoops.  I didn't check my gauge.  I didn't check it because with crochet I have never had an issue.  And also, because I am lazy.  And also it really didn't cross my mind that I could get that far off with the right sized needles for it to matter.  So anyway, apparently I hold too much tension on the yarn.  I can't imagine where it comes from... Hmmff! So, I've started something a little more forgiving in terms of gauge with a larger sized needle than recommended and making a big effort to hold the yarn loosely.  It is this beauty .  I'm excited that I decided to look up the crazy stitch abbreviation because the whole thing is super simple to to even though it looked intimidating to me.  Hopefully it will fit over my head in the end. ;)

Baby It's Cold Outside

I finished Emerson's sweater a little bit ago and finally added the buttons. The buttons are wooden and I got them at Joann's. They were in a little basket of clearance buttons and I thought it was a quarter for the two of them but in fact then all of them were half off that. If the Bug hadn't been so ready to go I would have gone back and really gone through them. I never have buttons... The edging is actually a creamy white but it was bright outside and the contrast was too much for my little camera to imagine. The blue is the alpaca blend that I used to make my felt hat last year. Maybe I will make a white flower to go on my hat and we will be matchy, matchy. I imagine that the Bug will felt parts of the sleeves and the front of this sweater pretty fast. He does love to chew on his sweaters... :) The only thing I don't like about this pattern (ravelry link) is the arms are big all the way down the the wrist. Part of what makes it so quick to work up is that...

The only thing I don't like about this pattern (ravelry link) is the arms are big all the way down the the wrist. Part of what makes it so quick to work up is that there is no shaping. (Which you hardly need for a baby anyway.) You don't have to worry about following the pattern every line and counting and recounting to make sure you have it right. It was so easy I thought of making a grown up sized one as well. But the sleeves would make me crazy and I am not skilled enough with the hook yet to be able to imagine how to do the decrease properly. And I have so many other...
