Birthday dress

Image
I must tell you I am still quite perplexed to find myself with a One year old baby.  How has this happened?  How could she still seem so small and baby-like ?  I am not sure if I am just delusional or if Emerson actually was farther along at this age.  He was really trying to walk I think, and that makes a difference.  Also, there wasn't a 4.75 year old to compare him to.  I know that makes her seem smaller. She is a delightful creature.  Full of smiles and jokes.  Easily frustrated and easily calmed. This was made using the same pattern for the hedgehog dress .  I still didn't cut the front and back pieces in two, just added a little extra in the front to make the gather.  Emerson picked the shoulder buttons and I came across these felt buttons I have had since E turned one.  I put them on to remind of a dog foot print as our party was, of course, a wolf party. I made this hoping it would be her birthday dress but it...

Sissie at One Year~

Image
You: :Are such a dream come true. :Have four snaggly teeth on the top and two neat teeth on the bottom. :Just climbed onto a stool in the kitchen tonight for the first time.  ACK! :Like to "talk" now when you nurse.  Suck, suck, pop, "Dah blah dah?"  Suck, suck, pop, "Gah dah ma."  Suck, suck, pop, "Gah dah. Dah blah!" :Like to play with the dog.  You pick up her toy and hold it for her.  She comes over and gently takes it from you.  Repeat. :Like to eat but are already getting a little picky. :Crawl very fast and determined with a slap slap as your hands hit the floor. :Love to look at the yarn shelf... :Wrinkle your nose, show your teeth and sniff/laugh at things when you think it is a joke. :Love banana bread cake. :) :Get coy with your food. Turning away and sniff-giggling then coming back to do it again when we feed you. :Like to take apart your brothers magnaform creations. :Are getting really into taking books off the she...

Mable & Sable

Image
Well hello!  Look at these little lady bunnies!! Mable and Sable are twin sisters.  They like many of the same things but each have their own sense of style and character.  Mable likes pretending to be a mouse ( Mrs. Frisby to be exact), playing with dirty children (you can tell by her already dirty dress), and having her ears nibbled by teething tots.  Sable is a little more reserved with my children, she is ready for an adventure and has just gone off to make her way in the world. I felt one day that I had to make a little bunny doll for Anjali and when I said it Emerson suggested making a second one for our newest little friend in Baltimore.  I thought it was the perfect idea.  I'd like to make about a dozen more for the many little friends we know.  I can tell they are good toys because everyone in the house wants to play with them. Of course, once they were here I knew they needed dresses.  Crocheted sweater dresses to keep the c...

The Plague

Last weekend, John was sick.  I even let him nap on Sunday afternoon, which means you know he looked really bad.  Pregnant mama's always have things for the papa to do right at the end... Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday E had a fever.  Friday I got it but E seemed better.  This morning E's turned into a horrible cough and by this evening his fever was back.  Luckily, I only had the fever for a few hours on Friday. My mother in law came by Friday and brought soup and this stuff  which seems to have worked a miracle for me.  I am trying to get it into E too, but he is refusing everything but Hyland's Cough and Cold .  And now that he is wheezing we are using his inhaler too. My friend wrote up this great blog for expectant mamas.  She has other great recipes all over her site, too. We have to get rid of this.  I need to have a baby soon.

Baby crochet

Image
I've been hooking a whole bunch for this baby.  I love making baby things because they are so small and you feel truly accomplished in a short time.  Also, I don't have to follow much of a pattern with these things anymore.  I'm not all that keen on directions... I'd like to let you know that all the pink was chosen by E.  He loves it and hopes for Sissie to come out everyday now.  The sweetness is killing me and between the gluten thing and my hormones I am totally in love with him all over again right now.  Sometimes I just want to snuggle kiss him until he can't stand it any  more. Last night he fell asleep on Papa and me while Papa was reading in front of the fireplace.  I could have eaten him. {this is still waiting for buttons} See?  I am supposed to be writing about the things I crocheted for Sissie, but I can't stop thinking of Emerson!  He just told me she should be out in time for dinner.  When Papa gets home....

Drawing

Image
Grainy pictures from a rainy day.  But I wanted to share these because I think they are so cute.  E decorated some shirts for Sissie.  I drew the circle and had him add the eyes and arms and legs.  He added the mouth (over the eyes), nose and hair. He also wanted to decorate the one where you open it so when you change her diaper, "It will be pretty!"  I just tried to keep a straight face. This was about a 5 minute art project.  Just the right length to keep it happy. Happy New Year!

Thankful

We have spent the last week without Papa.  Finally, yesterday he arrived and we are all together again.  E did so well, but he really is a Papa's boy.  Others have a place in his heart, but not THE place. When Papa got home E was glued to his side.  Even though we were getting back in the car to go to visit family for Thanksgiving and Papa had to get ready.  E helped Papa shave most of his week long beard off. They are so sweet.  I am so glad to see them back together again. I think he likes his Sissie, too. Hope your day was full of love!

What I've been up to-

Image
One day last week I could feel September in the air. I somehow ended up at Anthropologie recently and found myself trying on sweaters and capes and all things fall/winter. I am very excited about the feeling in the air today, the clothing we will all soon be wearing and of course, the chance to dress the Bug in beautiful handmade items. So I got out my crochet hooks and checked in with Ravelry to find some fun things. And then I got to work. Last week I finished this little sweater as much as I will until I think he is ready to wear it. It may fit just the way it is or I may be adding to it. He grows so fast I have no idea. It was super quick, easy and so sweet I want to eat it. I made it from the yarn I had left over from the cloche I felted last year. Such wonderful wool! This hat I started on Saturday and just finished up. I used two strings of sock yarn to get the gauge and I think it will fit him by the winter. It is a merino bamboo blend. Yummy. All of this is a li...

Things I have completed...

Image
1. This quilt which I started last summer. I had been not finishing it because I was afraid of cutting and binding it. The the other night I came home and just did it. It isn't perfect, but it is now on our bed adding a little extra warmth instead of wasting away in a bin, waiting for me to finish it. 2. This baby blanket which I started crocheting when I was like ten weeks pregnant. Now the baby can come because it has a mama-made blanket... 3. And speaking of the baby.... It is complete as well. I hit 37 weeks and so I am considered "full term". That means the baby is welcome to come whenever it is ready. Yay for baby!

Bits of Spring

Image
Okay- I took some pictures- yay! And I couldn't sleep so I eventually went downstairs and made not one but two changing mats for the baby- before breakfast. Anyone who actually knows me should understand just how bizarre that is. I generally (thanks to the magnificent Senor) don't get out of bed until after breakfast on the weekends. Seriously- unless it is to go somewhere for breakfast. I decided to make two of these because it would be easier it I had one ready even if I needed to wash the one I was using. I used the tutorial from sewtakeahike check out her other tute's listed in the sidebar. I am sure you'll find something you have to make. You may remember the fabric on the outside from our chair upcycle last spring. (Can you believe it has been that long??!) And the flannel is from that never ending sheet I bought for $3 at the thrift store forever ago. And the binding is from Cindy's grandmother's stash. Yay. I used snaps instead of velcro becaus...

The baby's bum

Image
First off- did you know it was already Thursday? I really thought I would be able to make this post early in the week. Instead of writing a bunch, how 'bout a list of things on my mind: 1) I did in fact manage to complete the things on my list for last weekend. Most important being making some baby bum wipes. Cloth wipes? you say, and I say, Yes! because if I am using cloth diapers I should at least try using cloth wipes too. I do have to say this is the most boring sewing project. I almost could nap while sewing it was so simple... The coolest part was getting to use an old flannel sheet that I picked up at a thrift store a while ago. Keep your eyes peeled for this fabric as it figures into this weekends project as well. 2) I ordered diaper covers from a wonderful woman named Kara on esty and they arrived this week. Can I tell you how much I love them?? The cuteness is killing me. Please visit her shop , tell her I sent you if you buy things and admire her work. She wa...
