Art appreciation

I am always nervous about using the word "appreciation" because I hate the spelling. It never looks right. There are a quite a few words I feel that way about...
Anyway, I had a couple of pictures from going to the BMA the other day that I wanted to share.

stone sculpture

This one I took for my mother. You should really click on it and look at it in the larger size. I love the shadow it makes and the stone is so beautiful in the light.

We started out just going for our regular walk in the morning but then I needed a coffee. We sat outside and enjoyed the perfect temperature. We ran into some old friends and chatted. And when I was finished I wasn't ready to go home. So we wondered over to the Baltimore Museum of Art, a place I have been meaning to take E for some time now. We went in and right from the start everyone was so kind to us. Interested, helpful and engaging. I felt like we were the only people there (it isn't like it was terribly busy mid-morning on a weekday) and all the staff really liked that we were there. Even if E wasn't the type of person you'd expect to find in a gallery.

We headed first to the modern section. I thought things in there would be the most fun for him as they tend to be big, bright and/or graphic. He was quiet and taking everything in, but didn't seem so entranced.

E appreciates art

Then we headed down to the South and Middle America collection and he changed completely. Smiling at the masks, clasping his hands together in joy and even a little laughing/shrieking in delight at the dolls and idols. Ah, I get it. He is just like his mama- modern is fine, but ancient is where its at for us.

The last thing we saw were little miniature rooms and store fronts in a very cool display where they are lit from within. I could see his mind ticking behind his eyes, wondering who uses this tiny world.

We will certainly be back.

Very nice photos, even the ones without E. Remember, Hecho en Nicaragua, he may be identifying with his roots. But I'll accept ancient...

Oh, and the word is paque, as in "Paque your bags, Matey!"

Thanks for the lovely shot of the alabaster. The word of the day is mench! Mench a tell ya...and I think there is a Yiddish interpretation too but you will have to ask your dad. I agree with Dad, maybe he felt at home among the Middle American Art.
