Desden Plate Pillow

Image
In an effort to get some started projects converted to finished projects I have been trying to sew or crochet a little each day this week. I finished the bloomers I need for this coming weekend first (you know, since I will be using them :) and then moved on the this block. I knew when I made it that it needed to be a pillow. I already had it mapped out in my head. Last night when I went to finish it up I had already had half a glass of wine and none of my (already poor) math skills could see through the haze. So it is different than expected. And then I sewed one of the back panels on backwards and I decided to walk away... Luckily the haze cleared and I finished it today after doing some seam ripping. Lesson learned.

To Remember

I hear birds chirping through the monitor as I write this. That means they are singing in Emerson's dreams too. :) He started really walking on Wednesday. He just let go and went, like the story people card . He just couldn't get enough. On Thursday, more. On Friday, more. On Saturday I bet he walked half a mile around Canton. On Sunday he started carrying things while walking. Today he is stopping and bending down to pick up things and continuing on. From the beginning he was stopping, turning, avoiding obstacles. He has fallen once and split his lip a little. Other than that he has miraculously gotten his hands in front of his face for every time he didn't fall in a self controlled way. Amazing and so fast. He pulls himself into our bed now. He turns around to get out feet first and lowers himself gently. I am so surprised to see him walk in to us in the mornings. He waves good morning to us when we wake up. He waves goodbye when we leave. He says dah dah

I have been doing plenty of sewing and making and have taken no pictures. There is a wedding coming up for my very best friend and his darling darling so you know, I had to get in on it. I made them a little tiny ring pillow. Very simple, a square about 4" with a pretty ribbon making an "x" in the center and two ribbons to tie the rings on. And then I found out she didn't yet have a veil so I had to make that too. Also, très simple, just a double layer of tulle gathered and of course I had to put in a few glass beads to give a little glimmer. For the dress I bought with Cindy the other week I decided bloomers were needed. It is just too cute not to have them and it will make chasing the Bug around less scary if I'm not so worried about my unders showing and no one else has to look at them. :) I am using this pattern . In a aqua to match my shoes. I also made a little turquoise bead necklace with silver accents. I can't help it, the dress needs it.

April Block- Growth

Image
When I heard the selection of the theme "Growth" for April I saw radiating fabric in my mind. I had the urge to use something more traditional than I normally go for just for a little challenge. (I do think following directions is challenging in sewing. Many other things I don't mind but sewing and cooking I have to force myself...) In my search for the perfect thing I found the pattern for a Dresden Plate and knew it would be perfect. I had thought I would apply it off-center or something to make it a little different. When I went to make this I decided to make two in case I messed it up big time (which is always likely here.) I cut out the pattern and put them together. I loved it. But the plate was too big! It had to fit a 10" block with room to attach but it was a full 1o" all by itself. I really thought of cutting more and making it a little smaller but then some how I came to think how neat it would be with pin tucks and then how it would "

Party time!

We have had a wonderful weekend of family and friends all celebrating together with us. I am always moved beyond words when I see how many people love our little Bug. I feel very blessed. There were gifts and cake and singing galore and through it all Emerson was smiles and joy. It was the first HOT day in a while here and we all had a good time sweating and eating together. If you click on the picture you can go look at the others. He loved the cake made by our sweet friend Michele . After saying goodbye to all our guests we spent this morning at the photo walk we try to do once a month with the Baltimore Photo Collective. It is a very cool idea. A bunch of photographers in the same place at the same time and finding out what everyone else saw. I borrowed Jeremy's very nice camera to take pictures with. Emerson quickly got too hot and too much sun though so we headed back to hit the pool at the Y. I love that place. He has so much fun and it is so nice to be able to e
