Good Neighbors or Button, Button

Image
I made a from a pattern (I always think "recipe") in Stitch Magazine . My sweet neighbor Jill asked me if I could use some old pants that needed to be retired and of course I said yes. When she was dropping them off she also asked if I could make a small bag for her out of them. I immediately thought of this pattern (recipe). I had in mind to make myself one as well and almost cut out my fabric at the same time but didn't for whatever reason. And now I am glad. I like this bag, but it isn't the kind I would carry (I need far more room for diapers and rice puffs) and though my bag would be made of different fabric I would have cut it to line up the same (since I was going to use some retired corduroys as well) and I feel like the effect isn't the same as the picture in the magazine where the sides are different from each other. Though it may just be the denim that is throwing me. I tend to keep denim in jeans and the occasion skirt and away from everything e

At 9 months~

9 months 010 , originally uploaded by Mr & Mrs Speeed . You are: Saying "giggle","hoydle", "doydle", "deedle" rolling all the consonants. Rolling to get everywhere. Scooting to get everywhere. Getting two teeth! on there way in on the bottom! Clicking said teeth on your water glass. Standing holding onto things. Swinging in your own swing at the playground. Entertaining yourself to sleep a lot. Crying when one of the parents walks away, even if the other the other is still there. Crying when we take away a "toy" (like a magazine you are about to ingest all of) Grabbing everything! Watch out!! Sleeping through some nights. Skipping naps. Chewing on shoes. Smiling and laughing at the dog and cats. Eating anything we give you. Having your baths alone in the tub. Clapping your hands and feet. (19lbs and 13oz. Still 28 inches long.)

35th birthday card

35th birthday card , originally uploaded by Mr & Mrs Speeed . Tomorrow is the birthday of my most wonderful, giving, loving husband. I am so happy to have a day to celebrate him! He makes it possible for dreams to come true and realities to be enjoyed. Which is pretty much all you need. In the last couple weeks he has been supporting me through the heartbreak of what has happened in Haiti. And he drills holes where ever I ask. And he offers solutions (if I asked for them or not;) He cleans up after I make dinner. He cleans up after the cat (baby, wife, dog, other cat...) explodes. He draws amazing pictures with delightful stories. He plays beautiful music that makes Emerson smile ear to ear. He worries about me but doesn't seem to mind even when it becomes apparent that I have, in fact, lost my mind. He is the best papa our boy could ever wish for. Happy Birthday Senor! We love you sooooooo much!

We are still here. We are smiling and swinging. We are inspecting and re-arranging. We are walking and observing.

Haiti needs your help!!

I have added a button from Doctor's Without Boarders. Please give what you can. I can't even say anything else here. I feel like my heart is broken.

Baby quilt in a baby nap

Unbelievable... After the last post I got two emails in quick succession suggesting that having E facing forward was not a good idea and after looking at the information I see that is indeed the case. Problem is, with it being not getting much above freezing outside here the last few weeks it takes a shoehorn and a foot to cram him into the infant seat and still have enough clothes on not to freeze. Solution, a blanket!! And while I could have gone and purchased a zip off kind of thing it would be made of polyester and then I would be worried about him over heating during a melt down (which the car seat tends to cause if the stars are not in proper alignment.) I'd been thinking about making this anyway and this just forced my hand. The unbelievable part is I made this and am now posting during one nap. Is it without bumps and ripples? No. Did I sew the binding by hand? No. Is it perfect for being wrapped in to and from the car and then snuggled into in the car seat? YES! Recog

Growing

Can we (I) talk about this little guy for a few minutes? I know it is in between the monthly thing I do but he is changing so much right now! For one, he weighs 20 pounds. Yes, 20! That means out of the infant car seat we have been stuffing him into like a sausage and into a "little boy" car seat. And oh the things there are to see from this angle- He looked around at us and out the window and smiled and talked and stared until he couldn't take it any more and passed right out. On that same trip he got to eat a fresh puffed rice cake from the H-mart for the first time and he has been loving them ever since. Byebye puree, hello solid solid food! I asked the nurse if she thought he would walk before he had teeth and she said don't worry, those gums can chew up just about anything. Teeth? Who needs 'em?! He wants so bad to crawl. He scoots and pulls and slides and last night he even pulled his bum off the floor from a sitting position. The nurse also told

2009

I saw this q&a over on Joanna's blog and thought since this year has been so eventful I should write it down. Surprise, surprise - there are a lot of baby things in the answers. Sorry if it is too sickly sweet. I'm in that kind of mood. 1. What did you do in 2009 that you’d never done before? Had a baby. Became a stay at home mom. Started selling things I make. Researched diapers. Obsessed about curtains. 2. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

I don't know if I made a resolution last year. This year I only resolve to keep going and try to experience each moment a little more. 3. Did anyone close to you give birth?

Do I count? 4. Did anyone close to you die?

My grandfather died. It was a little like a time warp cleaning out his place with my four month old child along. My experiences with my grandfather seemed a lifetime away. 5. What countries did you visit?

The South. 6. What would you like to have in 2010 that
