2009

B&O 2009 019

I saw this q&a over on Joanna's blog and thought since this year has been so eventful I should write it down. Surprise, surprise - there are a lot of baby things in the answers. Sorry if it is too sickly sweet. I'm in that kind of mood.

1. What did you do in 2009 that you’d never done before?
Had a baby. Became a stay at home mom. Started selling things I make. Researched diapers. Obsessed about curtains.

2. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

I don't know if I made a resolution last year. This year I only resolve to keep going and try to experience each moment a little more.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?

Do I count?

4. Did anyone close to you die?

My grandfather died. It was a little like a time warp cleaning out his place with my four month old child along. My experiences with my grandfather seemed a lifetime away.

5. What countries did you visit?

The South.

6. What would you like to have in 2010 that you lacked in 2009?
I got so much from 2009 that I don't feel like I lacked anything. Except money- but isn't it always that way?

7. What dates from 2009 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
April 26th and 27th- when I began labor and gave birth.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?

Becoming a mother. It has been more amazing than I could have ever imagined. I expected it to be very hard and exhausting in every way but it has been so natural and rewarding.

9. What was your biggest failure?

Forgetting to mail thank you notes people. All of you who sent gifts, support and hand-me-downs. I really do think of you and thank you every time I use what you gave us. I just suck at letting you know!

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
I had a couple stomach things but aside from that I have never felt better.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
The massages for our anniversary. The Moby and Ergo.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
My whole family and all my friends for the amazing support we have received (especially in the beginning.) And my husband who has been more than my partner, he has been my cheerleader, my benefactor, my love. What more could you ask for?

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?

The media's.

14. Where did most of your money go?
Baby things and food, I've been hungry this year.

15. What did you get really excited about?
Family, celebrating, bringing E home, tiny baby feet, happy dogs, travel, sleeping in, eating well.

16. What song will always remind you of 2009?
Anything by Norah Jones or the Beatles or Buena Vista Social Club

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:

– happier or sadder? Happier.
– thinner or fatter? Certainly thinner.

– richer or poorer? Poorer.

18. What do you wish you’d done more of?

I can't think of anything I regret this year. It has been amazing.

19. What do you wish you’d done less of?

Procrastinating.

20. How did you spend Christmas?

At home with family enjoying myself.

21. Did you fall in love in 2009?
I certainly did. E is more enchanting every day. John gives me more than I could ever give back.

Thirty Rock- Blerg!

23. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?

Not even a little.

24. What was the best book you read?
I read a lot so what I am mentioning is fairly recent. Nurture Shock was amazing. I am reading The Magicians right now and it is pretty good. Ina May Gaskins' books changed my outlook on birth- thanks Dag!

25. What was your greatest musical discovery?

That babies want to hear you sing even if your singing would make others run screaming.

26. What did you want and get?
A sweet baby and the time to watch him grow.

27. What did you want and not get?
I can't think of anything.

28. What was your favorite film of this year?
Coraline.

29. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
Went to visit family in Atlanta and SC, got a kindle and homemade creme brulee. I was 29.

30. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Keeping my paycheck when I gave up my job.

An amazing husband, a sweet boy and coffee.

33. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Obama

34. What political issue stirred you the most?

Health Insurance overhaul.

35. Who did you miss?

Nicole and Jen. Pregnancy and infants don't leave much room for outside adventure. Maybe next year.

36. Who was the best new person you met?

The other moms in my birth class and more recently Rachel and Sadie who keep E and I in tea parties and cookies.

37. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2009.

Being a new parent is exhausting on some levels but it gives you more back than you would have ever guessed AND if you put it out there someone might just want it.

38. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.

All you need is love, da da da dada dah!
