Just because...

The last few evenings I haven't been quilting, cleaning, or even starting a new sewing project that has been going round and round my head. I have been having a completely decadent time reading. Right after my classes ended I sat down with the new Phillip Pullman mini and read the whole thing straight through. Because I could. And it was the first time I had read anything longer than a magazine article since classes started. I read it so fast I will have to go back to it again and read it over. Now I have started a book that I am taking a little more time with called " sweetness in the belly " which I am loving. I am not sure it is a good book because I am not a critical reader. I am sure I am enjoying getting in bed at 7:30 to read. Just because I can.

Sunday At Work

I sat on the porch and worked on these all morning. I have three blocks down, 6 to go. Senor worked on the walls in the bedroom. I think it will be done this weekend. As always click on the pictures to go to the fliker site and see more. Also, check out my cool dad's new blog !

Cats outside

Last night we sat on the porch and had dinner (thanks for the great red sauce recipe Cindy !) and drank an entire bottle of wine. It was just the perfect temperature outside. We had pasta with red sauce that included artichoke hearts, veggie crumbles and yummyness. We let the cat's out to enjoy the evening air. Syd is always trying to escape... Sebastien is just always looking mesmerized.

Quilt Wounds, the Bug Man and the Mail

Today is the most wonderful Thursday. All day I have been working on the quilt. I made the "sandwich" (put down the backing, laid out the batting and basted on the top) and sewed down each of the seams. Of course, this part isn't perfect. Have I mentioned I don't do perfect? But it is very workable. My next idea was that I could machine stitch the patterns onto each square but I quickly realized I was being too ambitious. If it was smaller I could free hand machine it but it is just too big. So after a couple botched attempts I gave up and got out the biggest hoop I could find. I managed to do just over half the first block before giving in and calling Senor to ask for curved needles. Between the twenty lines of basting this morning and that half a square sewing blind my hands are pretty much pincushions. And I think I have a blister coming up on my index finger. Reminds me of climbing! This morning a man came over to the house to talk about bugs. The oth

The kindness of (m)others

Today my friend Annie left after spending a wonderful whirlwind 36 hours with me. Her kindness and warmth always inspires me. Thank you. Senor is away with his mother for the weekend so I am trying to catch up on some laundry, vacuuming and neatening. In doing these simple things my mind has been free to wonder to ruminations on the things in my hands. I came across a project that fills me with happiness for my mother. In being suddenly a person who can Create things I feel like I can give exactly what I want or think best as gifts. I also came across the card I haven't sent out yet for mother's day. Don't worry mom, it is coming!! Thank you for inspiring my imagination. I've been around the bed all day. Folding clothes on it, taking off the sheets and remaking it. I've also been thinking of quilts all day because of another project I am getting ready to start. I have an amazing quilt that is on my bed almost all the time and has been for the last four ye

Catching Up

Ugg! Seven days and no post. I've been kind of away both mentally and physically for a bit, but I think I am back now. For a minute anyway... I have also been waiting to get a picture of the Fu Dogs that I got while in New York over the weekend but since that doesn't seem to be happening I will stop letting that hold me back. My good friend Sharon was kind enough to take me to New York with her last weekend. We had a delightful time. We saw Itzhak Perlman and his students at the Met on Saturday and then Sunday we saw Sharon's sister perform her final concert as a student at the Manhattan School of Music. Both concerts were fantastic. We walked about a million miles, met Jeremy and Chrissy for drinks, Sharon played the violin in the subway and we made our return train with three minutes to spare. It could not have been more of what I needed. A big huge thanks again Sharon! I have a little quilt project in mind. I hope to be able to buy some fabric and get started

Words I Needed

Here. It is so wonderful how the world can offer you what you need when you need it. What lovely, thoughtful words. Thank you.
